I’ll let you know right off the bat, I hate driving in the snow – hate it! Everything is icy and cold. I’m the one white knuckling the steering wheel heading down the highway.
But, as always, there is a lesson to be learned in this.
I like to call it the “Rule of Snow”.
On my way to work, I take I-25 which is a major three lane highway. But during a snowy morning, you are down to two lanes.
How do you know this? You follow the tire treads of all the cars before you. You can’t actually see where the lines are on the road. So, the new lines become the treads.
There are usually not too many issues when everyone is following the same treads.
Where it gets a little messy is when parts of the road start peaking through the snow. You will see a stretch of the road and where the lines actually are.
Then you have to choose – drive in the tire treads or guess where the road lines actually are.
Take the road being traveled or try to guess where you should actually be.
I think this image slides over into affiliate marketing where you see affiliates moving over into the gray area of our industry. Copying pages and participating in marketing methods that may be frowned upon by certain government agencies. Why are they doing this? Because, it seems like everyone else is too, and making money doing it.
The snow has come and covered the road. No one can see where we are really supposed to be. The lines have been hidden.
Again, where it gets messy is when the lines of the road, or rules the government, tries to direct marketing practices and others are still following the tire treads.
My advice, as Robert Frost would say, is to take the road less traveled.
Stay on the road – but there are fewer cars to get in your way and more to see along as you approach your destination. It may take you longer to get there – but when do accomplish your goals you did it by making your own tire treads on the road.
