I was out for my afternoon walk along the Platte River here in Denver one day when I noticed a few ducks drifting down with the current.
They just floated along.
The thing is when you just float along with the current – you are always headed downstream.
The reason water is flowing downstream is because it’s the path of least resistance. It’s going over little waterfalls, taking you through rapids, tossing you against the rocks.
The duck really didn’t have control over where it was going. But I could see, it was headed for a bumpy ride.
Affiliate marketing can be like this. The current of where the traffic is going sometimes carries you. You just go with it, doing what others are doing without really working towards a goal.
Even though it seems easier, let me tell you – you are headed for a bumpy ride up ahead.
When you take control over where you are going, your marketing goals and where you concentrating your efforts, you can avoid many of the pitfalls that seem to just slam into you.
I’m not saying it’s easy when you are swimming upstream against the current, but you can at least steer where you are going.
The same is true for networks as well. Just going with the flow. Doing what has always been done. The industry gets stagnate.
Sometime though, those little ducks will take flight. Take a totally different road. As marketers, we can do that too.
Is the way you are headed where you really want to go? Does it lead you to your goal?
Sometimes the best thing to do, is not only change paths – but to just take flight.
