It’s Raining Men!
By Nicole Aranda
(An insider’s perspective on working with all men)
As most of you may know , I am one of only four women who constitute the Getads office. The rest of the office consists of eating, drinking, swearing, smelly men! Yes that is right, we the few, the women of Getads, have the pleasure of working with 12 amazing men. As you can see our ratio is quite a difference. So what is it like one might ask? What is it like to be a woman in a man’s world? Let me tell you…
I guess I should start off by telling you that I grew up having one brother and he was younger. He was raised with two older sisters so naturally he was more of the kinder and gentler type of male. Working here at Getads, I now find myself in quite a different territory, and I now find that I have the benefit of having not one, not two, but 11 older brothers and one younger brother (sorry Sean, I am older than you.)
Here in our lofty home, we operate not only as a business but as a family. It is with this group of people that I have learned things I never thought I would. Everyone here adds a balance, a piece to the puzzle that you all know as Getads.
In the history of our country there has not always been room for women in the workforce. Unfortunately, even in an age where equality should be a common practice, women still find barriers. But I am proud to say this is not the case here in our cozy Denver office.
To many of you who have met the men of Getads and possibly know them in their crazy daily lives, I am sure you are wondering how this environment can be the type that caters to the needs and comfort of women. It is through these men that I am growing more each day, both professionally and personally. To give you an idea of what these men have to offer I will mention a few of the better things I have learned and experience with my many “older brothers”:
I have learned how to shorten my words and get straight to the point. How to place and test a pixel without a team to help me. I have learned that men can be the stinkiest of creatures while still managing to convince everyone else that it was you. I feel beautiful every day. I am complimented for my work, encouraged to succeed, and praised for a job well done. I laugh every day. I have learned that Sriracha is good on EVERYTHING. Mexican food is great up until the 30 minutes after it is consumed. And sunflower seeds help the day pass. I have learned how to fend for myself, not take things so personally, to show up on time, and to share. I have learned lyrics to songs I had never heard, heard dirty words I never knew existed, and listened to stories I swear are too bogus to be true. I have seen how motivational speeches can change the day, a phone call can change the mood, and an encouraging word can increase numbers. But most of all, I have seen how each and every one of us needs each other to get through the day.
So for those of you who think you know these men on an outside level, on a fun and outrageous level – this is a new side. We, the four women of Getads, are their sisters, their mothers, their friends. They take good care of us while encouraging us and all included to succeed.
So yes… It is raining Men…. And I say Amen!
