So Glad I Got Fired!!!

I spent about 7 years in the New Home Sales Industry; basically right out of college I found this job as a filler, something I could do until I started my real career. The problem was I was pretty good at it and weeks turned to months and months turned to years.

As time passed it became abundantly evident that I absolutely hated my job. Not just the job, but the environment and in a lot of cases the people.
At the last company I worked for, the office was worse than a morgue. It was 40 people who I swear hated it worse than I ever could. Constant complaining, back stabbing, and maneuvering by people trying to make their coworkers look stupid only to make themselves look better.

The place itself was absolutely stale. Both the people and the smell. I can honestly say I never once heard someone laugh that it wasn’t contrived.

The company philosophy was to hire and fire, a revolving door of new people. The ones that were worth a shit always left on their own to find a less miserable job. It seems too easy to blame it on the management. I don’t want to sound petty but it was their fault. It started with them; they were the kind of guys whose most effective management came from threatening their employees.

They weren’t the only managers I have had that used this philosophy. The difference is they were dorks. The kind of guys who would never talk to regular people the way they talk to their employees because they would get knocked out on a daily basis.

Today as I write this it almost makes me laugh to think about how miserable it was. Not that I didn’t realize it at the time. You start to think that work is supposed to suck and that is why they pay you for it.

The day finally came where I decided to make the change. Actually I got fired. Lets just say your job security is really just as good as your relationship with your immediate supervisor, in that case not very secure.

So here I am today, at GetAds and life is good. I am extremely lucky to have found a workplace where environment, loyalty, and having fun are nearly as important as working hard and making money.

It is the first place I have been where people really can be themselves. Being successful and being happy don’t have to work against each other; actually one can support the other.

I am wearing flip-flops and a hoody, yet I can still work hard. It is easy to get up early and come to work. Work hard, have fun, make fun of my friends that I work with and be able to laugh when they make fun of me.

Don’t get me wrong; when the weekend comes I am still excited. The difference is I will probably be hanging out with my coworkers instead of dreading seeing them on Monday.
