Wow you got me an over processed piece of meat, Thanks Mom!

Wow you got me an over processed piece of meat, Thanks Mom!

Have you noticed on TV commercials with products for kids, one of the most popular phrases used is “Thanks Mom, for getting me _____________.”

It doesn’t matter if it’s buying sugary Kool Aid over soda. Or freeze dried chicken nuggets baked to perfection. Washing their dirty smelly clothes with an amazing sent of Febreeze. The commercials feature kids thanking their moms by standing on chairs and shouting it out.

The commercials may be a little annoying and a tad redundant, but I think television has been using a tactic that online marketing hasn’t really tried.

Those brands have a pulse on not only what their target audience is searching for, but also what they want to hear.

The biggest phrase moms want to hear is “Thanks Mom.” They hardly ever do. (Now is a good time to call Mom and say thanks!) According to the messages in these commercials, my kids will eat it, they will love it and they will thank me for it. That product might be worth a try.

When I was little, my mom always bought my sister and I Sunny D. Sunny D’s slogan at that time was, “Your Mom got Sunny D. What a cool Mom.”

Now my sister and I hated Sunny D (still do, nasty stuff). But my mom kept buying it, because she wanted to be cool to us. We finally had to give in and tell her we promised to think she was cool if she stopped buying it.

Sometimes the best way to convert your visitor is not to find what they are searching for, but tell them what they want to hear.

Instead of asking them if they need to lose weight. Try saying, You’re a Hot Mama, yes this can be you.

Or instead of: Need an Education? Try: You just got a raise, here’s how.

It’s simple rewording really.

Sometimes people aren’t searching for a specific product. They are searching for a result. Telling them what they will hear after they try what you are selling might be what they are actually searching for.
