Over the years there have been hundreds of holiday movies made. I was sitting in my family room watching a few of them this weekend and I started to think, “What GetAds All-Stars reminded me of famous holiday movie characters. “

So as I’ve thought long and hard about this (with some help) here is my cast of characters! Enjoy:

Mike Guida: Clark Griswold from Christmas Vacation. Always making me laugh.

Lou Difulvio: Willie from Bad Santa. Need I say more?

Jamie Stephenson: Ralphie from A Christmas Story. He still wants the red ryder bb gun.

Nicole Aranda: Lucy from A Charlie Brown Christmas. Loves pulling the football back before you kick it.

Dillon Sloan: Kevin McCallister from Home Alone. The little guy always ends up alone and in trouble.

Caryn Stoll: Ghost of Christmas Present from Scrooged. She can pack a punch!

Beau Hadwiger: Cousin Eddie from Christmas Vacation. For some reason I can picture him outside in a bath robe with a beer while still looking good.

JP Pineda: Rudolph from Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. He’s not scared to be his own person and will always lead when it is foggy outside.

Vince Chavez: Bernard the Elf from The Santa Clause. No its not because his height. It’s because he works endless hours behind the scene to make sure everything runs smooth!

Cassandra Bojoh: Jesse from Toy Story 2 & 3. She would have made an awesome Cowgirl!

Joelle File: Minnie Mouse from Mickey’s Christmas Carol. She is straight Disney.

Hoang Nguyen: Frosty from Frosty The Snowman. He tries to have as much fun as possible.

Roxanne Turner: Mary Bailey from It’s A Wonderful Life. She always stands by family no matter what.

George Avery: John McClane from Die Hard. A man of action!

I hope you enjoyed this and we wish you and your family a Happy and Safe Holiday Season.

Back in June, I read an article in Search Engine Land, a site which I’m sure you PPC and SEO junkies read religiously. It was titled “How Mark Zuckerberg Stole Your Search Traffic & What To Do About It.” I mean, honestly, in the affiliate world, stolen traffic is enough to start an uproar, especially if billionaire Mark Zuckerberg is in the mix. After reading the article, (which you should probably read as well) it made perfect sense. He did steal that traffic from those poor webmasters just so they would stay on his site, and then we, as affiliate marketers, want top dollar (if you’re lucky enough not to get booted from Facebook) to get them back to us where, in all honesty, is where they belong until they sign up for or buy whatever we’re selling.

So how did this happen? Did Zuckerberg use massive brain power to force millions of websites to push his product for free? Does he posses the telepathic powers only seen in the likes of Professor X? Is he really the mastermind behind The Nazca Lines of Peru? Maybe, and just maybe, he capitalized on the world’s laziness… more often than not, I hear about affiliates making landing pages, testing new designs to increase conversions and inventing just downright genius ways to get more sign ups. But why do they stop there? Why not build a brand around all your hard work? If you have an email list, why not brand it as a newsletter? (Hint: mailers) If you make landers, spend a few extra hours to SEO it and sign people up for a newsletter so you can become a mailer, and then later take my advice and brand it as a newsletter. The list is endless, but, in almost all web ventures it is not a case of “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it,” it’s more….. “if it isn’t broken, look closer.”

by Tyler Hoelting When George Avery decides to take the office on an adventure, many of us have learned his antics come without warning. He devoted this affair to a course in Colorado history. The Buckhorn Exchange, Denver’s oldest restaurant was the destination chosen for this occasion. Walking into the establishment it is easy to see the rich history and Old West demeanor. The restaurant smelled of weathered oak and waitresses dressed in traditional full skirts. George in true form, ordered up an array of meats, despite the displeasured looks from a few of his guests. Here are some of the meats we sampled: Rattlesnake, Fried Alligator Tail, Rocky Mountain Oysters, Buffalo and Elk Game Tips, Ostrich, Yak, and Quail. To see the full menu, click here.

Lessons of the Geese In the fall when you see Geese heading south for the winter flying along in the “V” formation, you might be interested in knowing what science has discovered about why they fly that way. It has been learned that as each bird flaps its wings, it creates uplift for the bird immediately following. By flying in a “V” formation, the whole flock adds at least 71% greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own. Quite similar to people who are part of a team and share a common direction get where they are going quicker and easier, because they are traveling on the trust of one another and lift each other up along the way. Whenever a Goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to go through it alone and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the power of the flock. If we have as much sense as a Goose, we will stay in formation and share information with those who are headed in the same way that we are going. When the lead Goose gets tired, he rotates back in the wings and another Goose takes over. It pays to share leadership and take turns doing hard jobs. The Geese honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep their speed. Words of support and inspiration help energize those on the front line, helping them to keep pace in spite of the day-to-day pressures and fatigue. It is important that our honking be encouraging. Otherwise it’s just – well …honking! Finally, when a Goose gets sick or is wounded and falls out, two Geese fall out of the formation and follow the injured one down to help and protect him. They stay with him until he is either able to fly or until he is dead, then they launch out with another formation to catch up with their group. When one of us is down, it’s up to the others to stand by us in our time of trouble. If we have the sense of a Goose, we will stand by each other when things get rough we will stay in formation with those headed where we want to go. The next time you see a formation of Geese, remember their message that: “IT IS INDEED A REWARD, A CHALLENGE AND A PRIVILEGE TO BE A CONTRIBUTING MEMBER OF A TEAM” -Anonymous

A general day here at Get Ads starts with a fresh dose of ESPN. In fact our TV is tuned into the world wide leader in sports typically for the rest of the day.

Of course we don’t pay attention to most of the programming that goes on otherwise we would get nothing accomplished during the day. I will admit this mild interference turns into 7 or 8 reruns of sports news that I can segment together a previous days sports highlights about as well as any sports enthusiast.

Right at 3 PM MST my favorite ESPN program called Around The Horn airs. The show satellites in four sports columnist from around the country and the host Tony Reali, who awards points for their arguments on the hottest issues in sports.

I am a fan of this show not so much for the insight it gives me but the quirky chalkboard quotes written behind Denver Post’s own columnist Woody Paige. During an episode Woody writes out on a chalkboard behind him a quote of the day. These quotes are dry in humor and articulation candid, perfect for Facebook status updates. I have used these quotes from time to time on Facebook with quite a response. If you are interested in sparking attention through your FB status I suggest using one of Woody’s quotes. I found this blog http://joshmadison.com/chalkboard/ who quotes Woody on a daily basis. Enjoy!

Here are some of my favorite quotes:

Ambition is a poor excuse for not having enough sense to be lazy!

I wanna live ‘til I die, no more, no less.

It’s not how you pick your nose, but where you put your booger.

I know it all, I just can’t remember it simultaneously.

We met in a past life and you were wrong then too?

Bad decisions, make good stories!

Back in the office a morning after the show is always a slow start. You are so tired from the trip, but excited to reach out to everyone that you’ve met and reconnected with.

Adtechs, even though they run a huge gamet of indutry related booths, the theme this year was media companies. It’s going to be interesting to see how they all play with each other. There is no shortage of media to buy online, it’s who can deliver the most exposure at the best price.

Remeber the game “Hungry Hungry Hippos”, when you race to get the most marbles in the plastic hippo’s mouths. That’s what I can see happening in the media buying space. Which companies can get the best exposure spots. There is only so much placement on a page.

As always there were some good parties which allowed for more talk time.

Some of the GetAds crew got to check out the World Series and watch the Yankies bring it home! (We’ll get some picts up soon!)

All in all, a good show. We are glad to be back in the office!
